Sparkling Sports Project

Over the course of a year we ran a family sports project funded by Sport England which included a variety of free sports activities including:

  • Badminton for ladies and girls at Tyneside Badminton Centre
  • Badminton for men at Tyneside Badminton Centre
  • Swimming for ladies and girls at Elswick Pool
  • Swimming for men and boys at Elswick Pool
  • Ladies fitness classes with an instructor
  • Ladies cycling classes at Newcastle Central Mosque
  • Cricket Club for children aged 5-16 at Newcastle Central Mosque

The Women and Girls Cycling Programme

Over the past 10 weeks, the program has supported girls and women aged 3 and above in learning to cycle at Newcastle Central Mosque. Funded by Sport England and delivered with the help of fellow instructor Kathy, Jordan the mechanic, and Maria, a trainee ride leader, the team sourced upcycled bikes from Cycling 4 Everyone and introduced participants to cycling through Balance and Cycle Confidence sessions, along with basic bike maintenance skills.

The group enjoyed several local cycling trips to Nunsmoor Park and Wylam, culminating in a final adventure to Druridge Bay. For this finale, an excellent bike bus was hired from WATBike, taking everyone on a scenic ride around the lake and to Amble and back.

Together the participants overcame their anxieties about cycling and discovered the joy and fun of riding – with plenty of smiles along the way.

The GenZpreneur Project

A project for young people aged 13-19 (up to age 25 if SEND) where they attend once a week business skills workshops. This includes a project in which young people set up their own company and sell their own products.

They also have a once a week sports activity in term time (swimming, badminton, football) and termly x 3 team building recreational workshops.

NatWest Thrive

We teamed up with NatWest to deliver their Thrive programme which aimed to help children develop various life skills such as financial skills and employability skills.

Girls Empowerment Project

During the Summer holidays we ran an empowerment project for girls which aimed to improve their confidence and team building skills. Each girl got to choose an activity that they enjoyed and over the course of a week we ran a range of activities for them. A few of them include tennis, board games, badminton and a trip to Active Reality, a VR gaming experience which allowed them to work together as a team to complete different games. As the girls got to choose the activities we found that they really looked forward to each session as they got to do something they were passionate about while making friends and developing teamwork skills along the way.
